How can I make the tennis team next year?

How can I make the tennis team next year?
I don't have much experience in tennis and the tryouts are in the beginning of August. One of my friends is on the tennis team and she said that there isn't much competition. I was wondering what type of workouts I should do, what foods I should eat, and if I should take regular or private lessons.
