Interesting trick or a reason to be banned?

I am just brainstorming on ways to improve search engine ratings and I came accross an idea that someone had to have tried already. What if you find a search engine that's not very famous, but has your site indexed, and you search for site:yoursite and link the results page somewhere on your site. Does that mean you get a backlink to each page indexed? Would this work, or would one get banned for it?
